How To Pick Your Wedding Date

| , ,

There are many things to take into account when choosing your wedding date. Perhaps you want it to be on the day you had your first kiss under the stars, the day you first met on the beach, your favorite season, or the availability of your dream venue. With so many dates in mind, there’s a chance you may get flustered but before you throw your hands in the air and go out for a coffee to rejuvenate, flip through the calendar and choose a random day and year then keep reading for some help from your Lesner Inn girls!

The Year

Start big. The first step into choosing your wedding date is to pick the year. There are a few ways to pick a year, such as looking at your budget and how you want to split the payments. How much time do your guests need? Are they coming from out of town, states away, or even from a different country? Do you want a long engagement or a short one? Traditionally many couples like to give themselves a year to a year and a half to plan their wedding, book their vendors, and send out invitations. This allows your guests and you time to figure out all of the small details and budget accordingly. Once you have the year in mind the next step is choosing the month!

The Month

Do you have a favorite season? Did you dream of having a winter wedding but your fiancé always wanted a summer soiree? When choosing the month, there’s a lot of weather aspects to think about – even though you may not want to!  Things like hurricane season, the likelihood of it snowing, or the extremely hot months. Also think about holidays, are there any that you want to avoid? You may even want to consider when and where you plan on taking your honeymoon as you may want to plan around the departure and time off you’ll be taking from work. Automatically eliminate the days where you have prior commitments, will be out of town, or unable to leave work. Once you agree on the month the next step is choosing the day of the week!

The Day of the Week

Friday, Saturday, Sunday or even a weekday! When choosing the day of the week, think about your guests and the distance they’re travelling. Do you plan on having them stay overnight for any pre-ceremony festivities or a next day brunch? Also take another look at your budget and remember that Saturdays are typically the most expensive days with Sundays being the most budget friendly. Once the month is narrowed down, it’s time to choose the exact date!

Say Yes to the Date

The year, month, and day of the week are checked off the list and the last step is choosing the specific date that fits everything you’ve chosen so far. Take time to sit down with your fiancé and look at the calendar and your options. Once you have a date in mind, start sending out inquiries to your vendors and venues immediately as many popular dates, such as double digit dates like 10/10/20 book up fast!

Besides the guest list, the date is one of the very first things you’ll do when wedding planning. It’s the start of the fun, but it can also be the start of the craziness. We hope this helps you narrow down your options easily so you can be one step closer to saying “I do”!
